Job DescriptionTranslated from Japanese

▼Job Description We are seeking candidates for an Engineering Manager (EM) position within the Development Department at PR TIMES Inc. This department is responsible for the development of services such as the press release distribution service "PR TIMES." The EM will play a crucial role in resolving organizational challenges and strengthening our development infrastructure through talent development. ▍Background The press release distribution service "PR TIMES" (https://prtimes.jp/) was launched in 2007. Since then, it has been used by over 120,000 companies, including more than 65% of domestic listed companies, distributing an average of 2,000 press releases daily. Our mission is "Towards an era where information from those who act moves people's hearts." We believe that the accumulation of individual actions supporting society drives progress, and that PR has the power to change the protagonists of news and move society. While it may seem like a mature service, as a social information infrastructure, there is significant room for growth in its utilization across all regions of Japan and for international distribution needs. Despite being a prime-listed company, we are still in a phase of pioneering new territories. The PR TIMES Development Department currently consists of about 30 members and handles all development related to "PR TIMES" in-house. Management of the Development Department is currently handled by the Head of Development (VPoE) and two EMs. However, to accelerate further improvements in development speed and to create systems that allow each engineer to maximize their potential, we need colleagues to help strengthen our organizational foundation. We are looking for EM candidates to join us as core members of our organization, aiming to operate PR TIMES as a safe and sustainable system while achieving further growth through product evolution and improvement. You will engage in existing development tasks, understand the status of team members, identify challenges in development operations, and assess the organizational state. Depending on your progress, you will be entrusted with strengthening the development organization and infrastructure alongside existing management members. In development tasks, you will be responsible for the design, development, and operation of our press release distribution service "PR TIMES" or our PR analysis and effectiveness measurement tool "Web Clipping." (Management Task Examples) - Building systems for engineer training and evaluation - Mentoring engineer members - Task and schedule design, resource allocation, and progress management - Long-term organizational development beyond the scope of the engineering team - Bridging communication between management/business sides (including the CTO) and engineering members - Engineer recruitment (new graduates and mid-career hires) - Technical PR (e.g., managing the development blog) (Backend Task Examples) - Design and development of all systems related to "PR TIMES" - Service improvements based on internally proposed enhancements - Routine refactoring and bug fixing - Development and operation of tools to automate various operations such as deployment and infrastructure configuration changes (Frontend Task Examples) - Frontend implementation of web applications using React - Service improvements based on internally proposed enhancements - Routine refactoring and bug fixing - Building design systems and components in collaboration with the design team to improve development productivity ▍Organizational Characteristics At PR TIMES, we conduct backend development primarily in PHP and frontend development using TypeScript (React). There are many opportunities in all phases of shaping new products and systems, offering a wide range of development tasks. We also provide an environment where you can freely use OpenAI / Claude / Gemini and experiment with AI coding daily. A culture and system for each engineer to share their knowledge through conference presentations and development blog posts is deeply rooted. You can learn more about our daily development challenges by visiting our blog: Developer Blog: https://developers.prtimes.jp/ We are also supported by professional members, including Mr. uzulla, who has spoken at numerous events such as PHP Conference, PHPerKaigi, and YAPC, and is well-known in the PHP community. This allows us to receive high-quality reviews for PHP development. Additionally, we invest in educational opportunities for the entire organization to learn from industry professionals. For example, we host in-house TDD workshop training sessions with Mr. t-wada, who has translated numerous technical books including "Test-Driven Development" and "SQL Antipatterns," as the instructor. We welcome challenges that cross domains, such as backend to frontend or frontend to backend, while not mandating or forcing everyone to be full-stack. We emphasize an environment where individuals can strive towards their desired engineer roles while mutually learning from each other. - Work assignments are not solely based on top-down instructions or nominations; we adopt a style where individuals who raise their hands are proactively given opportunities. Consequently, even first-year new graduates may lead important technology selections or take on development leadership roles for projects shortly after joining. - During large-scale renewals or similar events, we may organize "User Meetings" with customer participation. We also have a wide range of internal data, such as recordings of customer meetings, making it easy to catch up on information. ## Position Attractions - The Development Department currently has about 30 members.
