Marui Unite, a tech company established in September 2024 by Marui Group, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and design its engineering organization of 20 people, with plans to grow to 50-60 within five years. This role will report directly to the CTO and drive decisions on engineering productivity and organizational culture.
Must-haves
- Experience managing engineering teams of 10+ people (including performance reviews, goal setting, 1on1s, and compensation decisions).
- Experience in indirect management (managing managers/sub-managers).
- Experience leading engineer recruitment from position definition to offer closure and onboarding.
- Experience defining metrics and explaining improvement results to management regarding development productivity and AI utilization.
- Technical literacy to discuss technical topics with engineers (e.g., code reviews, understanding AI tools).
- Experience explaining technical content to non-engineer organizations and management to drive decision-making.
- Project management experience including progress tracking and risk detection.
Nice-to-haves
- Business perspective to discuss technical investments and organizational design with management.
- Ability to quantitatively explain the ROI of engineering organizations (cost, speed, quality trade-offs).
- Experience designing and implementing performance/grade systems from scratch.
- Team management experience in uncertain environments (e.g., startup culture within a large corporate group).
- Aspiration to lead overall technical strategy as a future VPoE.

Work style
Hybrid work is possible. Flextime system (8:00-22:00) with no core hours. Location: Tokyo.
