Marui Group's tech company, Marui Unite, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and scale their engineering organization. This role will be instrumental in designing the engineering structure to support the group's vision of an economy driven by 'likes' and personal passions, aiming to grow the team from 20 to 50-60 engineers within five years.
Must-haves
- Experience managing engineering teams of 10+ people (including performance reviews, goal setting, 1on1s, and compensation decisions).
- Experience in indirect management (managing managers).
- Proven experience leading engineer recruitment from position definition to offer closing and onboarding.
- Experience defining metrics for development productivity and AI adoption, and reporting improvements to management.
- Technical literacy to discuss technical topics with engineers (e.g., code reviews, understanding AI tools).
- Experience explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and management to drive decision-making.
- Project management experience including progress tracking and risk detection.
Nice-to-haves
- Business perspective to discuss technology investments and organizational design with management.
- Ability to quantitatively explain the ROI of engineering organizations (trade-offs between cost, speed, and quality).
- Experience designing and implementing performance evaluation and grading systems from scratch.
- Experience managing teams in uncertain environments (e.g., startup culture within a large corporation).
- Aspiration to lead overall technical strategy as a future VPoE.

Hybrid (remote work is possible) in Tokyo, Japan. Flextime system (8:00-22:00) with no core hours.

Annual salary starting from 12,000,000 JPY. Probationary period of 3 months.
